<p><span style="color: #000000; padding-left: 20px;"><strong>PROGRAM DESCRIPTION</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;"><span style="color: #000000;">La Consolacion College Manila’s English as a Second Language Program is addressed to students who have little or no knowledge of the English language.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;""><span style="color: #000000;">It provides students with a good foundation in content knowledge , academic language skills as well as learning strategies that they need,  to be successful in an all-English environment whether in the academe or the workplace.  Furthermore, the program is a response to the growing number of foreign and English as a Second Language (ESL) students attending various Asian as well as western and European colleges and universities.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;"><span style="color: #000000;">Of significant interest and benefit to the learners/students are the numerous examples, activities exercises and experiences which are integrated into each subject that identify intercultural/multicultural variations in communications.  Each subject in the program is designed to suit the language needs of the learner.  The subjects are anchored on the Cognitive Language Learning Approach (CALLA) in which high-priority content , academic language development and direct instruction in learning strategies are integrated into lessons that encourage student comprehension , analysis and critical thinking.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000; padding-left: 20px;"><strong>Three Component Areas of ESL</strong></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;""><span style="color: #000000;">La Consolacion College Manila’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Program focuses on three component areas of English:</span></p>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li><span style="color: #000000; padding-left: 20px;"><strong>READING </strong>is designed to equip the learner with skills on reading fluently with meaningful comprehension and natural vocabulary acquisition .  It provides skill practice exercises that teach students to locate information, comprehend what is read and then act appropriately.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li><span style="color: #000000; padding-left: 20px;"><strong>WRITING </strong>covers writing on topics introduced  in reading  using description, narration and even biography. It also includes exercises that improve and refine the sentence and paragraph skills of the students.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;""><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>LISTENING AND SPEAKING </strong>covers survival skills in English grammar , pragmatics, accuracy and listening, including proper pronunciation, intonation and rhythm patterns.  It presents use of simple statements , questions and commands on familiar topics as well as real life situations.</span></li>
</ul>

<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;"><span style="color: #000000;">Two (2) hours per subject</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;"><span style="color: #000000;">Five (5) meetings per week</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify; padding-left: 20px;"><span style="color: #000000;">Monday to Friday</span></p>
