MAJOR LEARNING STRATEGIES OF THE ESL PROGRAM
The purpose of learning strategy instruction in LCCM’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is two fold:
- To develop students’ awareness of themselves as learners.
- To provide students with a variety of techniques to assist them in mastering academic content and language.
Major learning strategies presented and practiced are:
- Using prior knowledge
- Using selective attention in listening and reading
- Taking notes
- Making inferences from context
- Grouping and classifying information
- Using resources
- Working cooperatively with classmates
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM
La Consolacion College Manilla’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Program provides special features which further enhances the program as well as make the student’s learning experience more interactive and interesting.
- BUDDY SYSTEM
This is part of LCCM’s International Students’ Services whose aim is to promote the social and personal integration of foreign students . Likewise, it offers opportunities for buddy-teams to experience Filipino culture . Once a week, buddy teams engage in games, socials and other fun events.
- CLASS SIT IN
Once a week, foreign students attend regular English classes in campus. This immersion activity gives them the opportunity to interact with Filipino students and other foreign nationals thereby experiencing LCCM’s dynamic classroom set up as well as the school’s unique instructional methodology.
- CULTURAL EXPOSURE
Cultural and historical trips are included in the program to showcase the rich and colourful culture of the Philippines and at the same time provide opportunities for learners to interact with the locals.
